Travel: Bay Area Day Trips

San Jose, Ca is where I was born and where we currently live. There is nothing like living in the Bay Area, and lately the cost of living here has skyrocketed. We are in the heart of the Silicon Valley. There are so many technology companies here, and people from all over the world who come here to work. It’s not only a great place to live in, but also to visit.

We are lucky to have so many amazing cities nearby, and you have easy access to both wine country or a nice beach. My husband and I love taking day trips on the weekends. Since my husband started his tour, and with my pregnancy we haven’t gone on any adventures in a while, but I wanted to share with you our favorite cities. There is so much charm in each one, and we love exploring and finding good places to eat.

1. Napa Valley
Wow, well what can I say about Napa Valley? It’s such an amazing place to visit, and if you have time I definitely recommend reserving a hotel and staying here overnight. If you only have one day then head out early, stop in Yountville to grab coffee and a pastry from Bouchon Bakery before starting the wine tasting tour. From San Jose we usually head out by 8am when we go to Napa. It gives you ample time for the drive and also if you want to grab breakfast/brunch. For breakfast I recommend Boon Fly Cafe. They have the most amazing donuts and mimosas! Anything you order will be delicious. As for wineries, I recommend Artesa Winery. Not only is the view stunning, but their wine is great.

2. Tiburon, CA
Tiburon is a cute town just outside of San Francisco. It’s near the Bay, and has some cute restaurants and shops near the water. If you like places that are off the beaten path then I recommend you visit this town. It’s quaint and has so much charm.
3. San Francisco, Ca
San Francisco is one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the world. The things to do here are never ending, and you can spend an entire day exploring the city. And yes, there is much more to San Francisco than Union Square or Fisherman’s Wharf. The castro is beautiful with amazing restaurants and a great nightlife. The mission district has also evolved into a trendy and hipster spot where you will find shops and the best tacos in town. The Marina District, North Beach, Haight- Ashbury are all worth looking at and exploring. If you love brunch, like myself, I recommend going to Mama’s on Washington Square. It’s located in North Beach, but make sure you get here early because there’s always a huge line.
4. Carmel by the Sea, Ca
Carmel is a cute beach town where you will find restaurants, shops and you can visit this charming cottage in their downtown. Also make sure to visit the Carmel Mission, it’s gorgeous and has so much Spanish charm. You can also take a drive down the 17-mile road which is known to be one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the world.
5. Monterey Bay, Ca
Monterey Bay is so much fun, we love driving here and enjoying an entire day near the ocean. Enjoy a nice lunch at one of their many restaurants, and then take a walk on the beach. We love browsing through their little stores,  and buying caramel apples while we walk around Cannery Row. If you have kids, visiting the Monterey Bay aquarium is a must!
