Pregnancy: The Importance of Calcium

Pregnancy: The Importance of Calcium

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews. All opinions are 100% mine.

Today, we’re talking about pregnancy, and the importance of making sure we obtain the right vitamins for not only ourselves, but our little ones as well. A women’s body goes through so many changes throughout her pregnancy. With this second pregnancy, I feel more confident and experienced. I’ve definitely faced different challenges than my first pregnancy, but at the end of the day it’s all about making sure my health is a priority. It’s truly amazing to think how our bodies have the capacity of growing another human. My mom would always tell me to make sure I take calcium for our bones. I never truly understood why she was so persistent about that, but moms know best right? It wasn’t until I started doing more research about it.

Of course our baby needs the calcium to build healthy teeth, bones, muscles and heart, so we need to make sure we’re meeting our daily calcium requirements. This is so important in order to prevent the risk of osteoporosis later in life. Although, I take a prenatal vitamin everyday it’s important to also add a calcium supplement since most prenatal vitamins only provide 20-30% of the recommended amount of daily calcium. I’m not sure if you’ve ever experienced cramping during pregnancy, but I started getting muscle cramps in my legs at night. I asked my doctor why that was and she said it was because I needed more calcium. I decided to start adding it into my daily routine. Viactiv offers 650 mg of calcium in each of their chews ( I take 2 a day). I also love that they are individually wrapped so you can take them to go! They’re available at major retailers and food stores including Target, Walmart, Rite Aid, and CVS.

If you’re pregnant, I hope this blog post served you because it’s so important to make sure we take care of our babies’ healthy, but also our own. As women and mothers we always put ourselves last, but it’s crucial we stay informed and take the necessary steps in order to help prevent future problems with our health.
